During a lecture she held in Rijeka on the topic of the role of the Church in the process of the country's integration with the European bloc, the minister said the views of the primate of the Catholic Church in Croatia, Cardinal Josip Bozanic, on the Croatia-EU relations were congruous with her personal views as well as with the position of the incumbent government.
In this context she pointed out the Zagreb Archbishop's statements that Croatia should be throughly prepared for the admission into the EU and inform and engage as many citizens as possible in that process.
The minister said that her party, the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and the Ivo Sanader Cabinet had strongly advocated that the EU Constitution include a section on Europe's Christian roots, although they could not decide on that.
Grabar-Kitarovic said that the EU nourished a positive and friendly attitude towards Churches and that the Croatian Government should perceive the Catholic Church as a stable partner in the process of integration with the EU.
