ZAGREB, April 11 (Hina) - Croatian police have severed drug and people smuggling chains in two separate operations.
ZAGREB, April 11 (Hina) - Croatian police have severed drug and people smuggling chains in two separate operations.

Five groups of smugglers are suspected of having illegally transferred around 1,000 Albanians across the border since mid 2005. A total of 28 people have been charged with people smuggling. They are believed to have obtained close to one million euros.

In the other police operation, seven Croatians and two Bosnian nationals were arrested on suspicion of smuggling drugs in Croatia and Germany. They were arrested with more than four kilograms of heroin.

The police are still looking for some perpetrators from the two smuggling chains, the head of the Crime Police Department, Darko Dundovic, said on Wednesday.

Police Director Marijan Benko said the two operations proved that the Croatian police were ready to protect not only Croatia's borders but those of the EU as well.
