Despite announcements that the two parties might unite following Sanader's mediation mission and meeting with HDZ BiH leader Dragan Covic and HDZ 1990 leader Bozo Ljubic on Thursday, today the newspapers and the two party presidents were much more restrained with regard to future cooperation.
Citing sources close to the two parties' leaderships, Dnevni Avaz said that Sanader, Covic and Ljubic had agreed to draft constitutional changes together, with Sanader acting as mediator.
Ljubic described this cooperation as some sort of synergy between the HDZ BiH and the HDZ 1990, but said this did not mean the two parties would submit a joint constitutional changes proposal.
Reporting on the meeting of the feuding party presidents, Oslobodjenje said that more time would be necessary for better relations. An unidentified HDZ 1990 official told the daily it was too early to talk about future forms of cooperation between the two parties.
Nezavisne Novine said that, as far as the HDZ 1990 was concerned, the unification of the two parties that had been speculated on was not on the horizon due to fundamental disagreements over a rejected constitutional changes package. The HDZ 1990 continues to see Covic as the main problem due to his pushing for the package, the daily added.
