ZAGREB, March 25 (Hina) - Social Democratic Party (SDP) leader Ivica Racan on Sunday morning underwent surgery to remove a hematoma in his right shoulder that had already been operated on last month, the party's public relations office said in a statement.

After the operation, Racan regained consciousness, was transferred to his hospital room and is feeling well.

Yesterday's radiation treatment of a brain metastasis and today's operation are usual procedures in the treatment of tumor, the statement said.

The SDP leader is expected to stay in hospital for a week, after which he will continue treatment at home.

The party will keep the public informed about facts relevant to Mr. Racan's treatment, the statement said.

Racan was diagnosed with ureteral cancer and had his left kidney, ureter and lymph nodes removed in a Munich hospital on February 12.
