ZAGREB, March 14 (Hina) - The government's tendering commission in charge of proposing potential suppliers of combat armoured vehicles for the Croatian Army's infantry on Wednesday presented the Finnish Patria and the Austrian Steyer companies with requests to offer their final and binding tenders for the delivery of 126 new vehicles.

The two companies' managers received the requests at the Defence Ministry in Zagreb.

Defence Minister Berislav Roncevic, who chairs the commission, told a news conference that the deal would cover 42 6x6 vehicles and 84 8x8 vehicles, and that the tenderers would be granted a time term of two months to give their bids in compliance with bidding terms.

After that, the vehicles will be tested and the commission will formulate its proposal and send it to the government.

These are the so-called base vehicles without arms and navigational and communications equipment.

The Djuro Djakovic company from Slavonski Brod will coordinate the inclusion of Croatian partner companies in the project.

Roncevic declined to state the value of the prospective deal before agreement is reached on the terms of purchase.

When the Defence Ministry last year announced its intention to equip the armed forces with new armoured vehicles in accordance with NATO standards, the Finnish Patria and the Austria Stayer expressed their interest in the job.
