I can say that the accession talks with Croatia are going swiftly and smoothly, we have gained good travel speed in technical negotiations with Croatia, Rehn said.
Thanking Rehn for his support to Croatia, Sanader said that notwithstanding the fact that this year was an election year in Croatia, the country's Alliance for Europe was functioning well, proving the maturity of Croatia's political scene.
Sanader reiterated that this year should see the opening of talks on as many policy chapters as possible, and that next year should see the closing of the talks.
The meeting with Rehn marked the end of Sanader's two-day visit to Brussels, during which he met a number of European Parliament officials and attended a summit meeting of the European People's Party that was attended by a dozen EU prime ministers.
