ZAGREB, Feb 28 (Hina) - The Croatian Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, ended her official visit to Egypt on Wednesday with talks with President Hosni Mubarak and Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa.

According to a statement from the Croatian ministry, Grabar-Kitarovic and Mubarak agreed that relations between Croatia and Egypt were good and without any outstanding issues and that the two countries should strengthen their cooperation in the economic sector, culture and science, as well as within multilateral frameworks.

They also discussed the situation in the Middle East, with focus on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and other crisis spots, Croatia's membership talks with the European Union, and cooperation between Egypt and the EU as part of the Barcelona Process, the initiative to strengthen cooperation between the EU and southern Mediterranean countries.

During her talks with Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa, Grabar-Kitarovic asked for support for Croatia's application for non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council in the 2008-2009 period.

The Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and the Arab League signed an agreement reaffirming cooperation at all levels on issues of joint interest under the charters of the United Nations and the Arab League.

Grabar-Kitarovic said that her country had good relations with Arab countries, stressing that Croatia, being a Mediterranean country, also wanted to strengthen cooperation with Mediterranean countries, particularly in trade, energy and tourism.

Moussa welcomed Croatia's contribution to the Alliance of Civilisations, the initiative calling for such cooperation.

The initiative was launched by Spain and Turkey to overcome the atmosphere of mistrust between East and West following the 9/11 terror attacks in the United States.

Moussa and Grabar-Kitarovic also discussed possibilities of strengthening cooperation within NATO's Mediterranean Dialogue. Grabar-Kitarovic highlighted Croatia's contribution to 11 UN peacekeeping missions, particularly those in Afghanistan and Jordan where Croatian police instructors are training Iraqi police officers at the International Police Training Centre.

Grabar-Kitarovic said that Zagreb supported international efforts to stop the violence and find negotiated settlements to the crises in the Middle East.

At the end of her visit Grabar-Kitarovic again met her Egyptian counterpart Ahmed Aboul Gheit. Both officials expressed their desire that the two countries would ratify the Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Agreement on Air Traffic as soon as possible in order to boost trade.
