BELGRADE, March 1 (Hina) - The Serbian Supreme Court has upheld the verdict of Belgrade's Special Court for War Crimes which sentenced to prison a former member of the Vukovar Territorial Defence, Milan Bulic, for his involvement in the execution of Croat POWs at Ovcara outside Vukovar in 1991.

The Serbian Supreme Court said in a statement that Bulic's trial sentence of eight years was reduced to two years due to his poor health.

The trial of Bulic for war crimes at Ovcara started in the spring of 2003, as in the case of other 15 indictees, but proceedings against him had to be conducted separately due to his illness and incapacity to stand trial. In December 2005, 14 of the 15 indictees were convicted for the crime, while two were acquitted for lack of evidence.

The Supreme Court quashed this verdict in October 2006, ordering a retrial, which makes Bulic's verdict the first final verdict in the Ovcara massacre case in Serbia.
