"The truth about the Homeland War must prevail. We reject the allegations, which we find unacceptable," Sanader said at a ceremony of his party, the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), where HDZ membership cards were presented to new members.
"We know what the truth is, because we lived the truth, we were here and we participated in it, because Croatia was attacked. There was aggression against Croatia. Croatian soldiers didn't go to Serbia, it was the other way round. It wasn't Podgorica, but Dubrovnik, that was shelled, it wasn't Novi Sad, but Vukovar, that was destroyed. That's the truth about the Homeland War and it will remain so. The HDZ and this government will know how to defend the truth about the Homeland War," Sanader said among other things.
After hearing the positions of defence counsel and the prosecution on the issues of jurisdiction of the Hague tribunal in the "Gotovina, Cermak and Markac" case and conflict of interest on the part of attorney Miroslav Separovic, the trial chamber in charge of the case concluded a two-hour hearing on Wednesday without making a decision on the two issues.
The issue of possible conflict of interest with regard to Separovic representation cropped up last year when Gotovina's defence team, opposing the tribunal's decision to join his case with that of Cermak and Markac, cited possible conflict of interest on the part of Separovic because it mentioned the possibility of calling Separovic as a witness considering the fact that he was justice minister at the time relevant to the indictment against Gotovina.
