Speaking on Kosovo's Kohavision TV, Ahtisaari said on Saturday he would submit his completed proposal to the UN Security Council during March.
The Contact Group has made it clear on what the final status proposal will be based -- the principle of respecting the will of the majority in Kosovo, said Ahtisaari.
The former Finnish president also said that those in Kosovo protesting against his proposal had actually not read it.
If they had read it, they would have no reason to protest, he said, adding that those protesting were only risking the realisation of what they were dreaming of. He also said the international community would not obstruct the implementation of his plan.
The commander of NATO's troops in Southeast Europe, Admiral Harry Ulrich, said yesterday the NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR) peace troops would react swiftly and resolutely, without tolerating any violence in Kosovo.
KFOR will support the Kosovo police and the UN Mission's police so that they can act swiftly in case of any violence, against those instigating as well as those planning it, he said at separate meetings with international and Kosovo representatives.
Ulrich agreed with the assessment by Kosovo's authorities that the incidents of February 10, during demonstrations against Ahtisaari's proposal staged by the Self-Determination Movement in Pristina, as well as recent attacks on UN Mission vehicles were counterproductive and destructive for Kosovo's future.
The admiral said he had extended condolences to the families of those killed in the demonstrations and that UN Mission representatives had assured him that the investigation into the matter would soon be completed.
Ulrich said Ahtisaari had proposed a clear path for Kosovo's future. If Kosovo wants a peaceful and progressive future, the political process, the rule of law and justice must be respected and supported by all citizens, he said.
He reiterated the Contact Group's position that Kosovo would not be divided and underlined that the NATO mission would remain in Kosovo even after the final status of the province was defined.
