BANJA LUKA, Feb 21 (Hina) - The Franciscan monastery Plehan near
Derventa in northern Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday got back 365 artefacts,
including nine sculptures, which had been stored at the Archives of Republika
Srpska since the start of the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Friar Mirko
Filipovic, guardian of the monastery that was destroyed in the war, thanked
all who had protected the artefacts from destruction. He recalled that the
monastery had owned some 700 works of modern art that had been collected since
the middle of the past century.
The art collection was taken from the monastery Plehan to Bosanska
Dubica on October 21, 1992, in line with orders from the former Bosnian Serb
defence ministry. It was later transferred to the Archives of Republika Srpska,
where it was kept until its return to the monastery.
