VILNIUS, Feb 20 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic, who arrived in Vilnius for a two-day official visit on Tuesday, held talks with Lithuanian Defence Minister Jouzas Olekas on the enhancement of bilateral cooperation within the ISAF mission in Afghanistan.

Seven Croatian soldiers are engaged in the Lithuanian Provincial Reconstruction Team in Chaghcharan, the main town of the province of Ghor, central Afghanistan.

Lithuania, which is extremely satisfied with the performance of the Croatian troops, proposed earlier this year an increase in the number of Croatians within its 200-strong PRT contingent.

According to the proposal, Croatian and Lithuanian troops will take over the rotating command of the PRT annually and equally divide responsibility for the implementation of both the military and civil components of the mission.

Basic missions of the PRT are to construct or reconstruct infrastructure, build schools etc.

The proposal for Croatia is generally acceptable but Zagreb needs to study it thoroughly.

Mesic, who was today received by his host Valdas Adamkus, will hold talks with Parliament Speaker Viktoras Muntianas and Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas on Wednesday.
