VUKOVAR, Jan 31 (Hina) - Belgian Defence Minister Andre Flauhaut visited Vukovar on Wednesday to attend a ceremony commemorating the 10th anniversary of the death of Sergeant Olivier Gossye, a Belgian officer who had served with the
United Nations Transitional Administration in Eastern Slavonia.
VUKOVAR, Jan 31 (Hina) - Belgian Defence Minister Andre Flauhaut
visited Vukovar on Wednesday to attend a ceremony commemorating the 10th
anniversary of the death of Sergeant Olivier Gossye, a Belgian officer who had
served with the United Nations Transitional Administration in Eastern
Slavonia. Gossye was shot dead by a local Serb while riding in a UN
vehicle on January 31, 1997.
The ceremony was attended by Gossye's family, a delegation of the
Belgian Army Seventh Brigade, of which he was a member, and a delegation of the
Croatian Ministry of Defence.
The Belgian delegation also laid wreaths and lit candles at a monument
in Darda where Belgian Sergeant Richard Goedert had been killed on August 13,
1992 as a member of the UN peacekeeping force.
Minister Flauhaut also visited Osijek where he met Croatian Defence
Minister Berislav Roncevic at a working lunch.
