ZAGREB, Feb 9 (Hina) - In an interview with Croatian Television on
Friday, the chief prosecutor of the Hague war crimes tribunal, Carla Del
Ponte, declined to say what role Croatia's authorities and secret services had
had in the arrest of Croatian Army general Ante Gotovina, but underlined that
Croatia had fully cooperated. Asked if in investigations of generals
Petar Stipetic and Mirko Norac she had made any political concessions to the
Croatian government, Del Ponte said she had never received any requests in that
respect either from the government or the Croatian president and that she had
never been exposed to any political pressure.
The UN court's chief prosecutor also declined to either confirm or deny
that Croatia's former President Franjo Tudjman and Defence Minister Gojko
Susak had been under investigation. Let the deceased rest in peace, she
said.
