Pekic, who was arrested at a nearby border crossing with Bosnia-Herzegovina on 4 February, was taken into custody, the County Court in Sisak (50 kilometres southeast of Zagreb) reported on Wednesday.
On 14 December 2006, the Sisak County Prosecutor's Office pressed charges against Pekic and another 14 persons accusing them of having committed war crimes against 56 civilians in Hrvatska Dubica, Cerovljani and Bacin from 15 to 21 October 1991. Serb paramilitaries killed 76 civilians on 21 October 1991. Of those victims, 56 were exhumed from a mass grave in 1995, and the other 20 are believed to have been thrown in the Una river and their bodies have not been found.
