ZAGREB, Feb 7 (Hina) - The Croatian Interior Ministry plans to
make some personnel and institutional changes so as to facilitate efforts aimed
at curbing corruption, a ministry official said on Wednesday while presenting
a report on the implementation of the 2006-2008 national anti-corruption plan
before the National Anti-Corruption Council. Kresimir Sikavica, the
head of the unit for crackdown on corruption of the ministry's white-collar
crime department said that the ministry was systematically training police
officials to be more successful in detecting perpetrators of white-collar
crimes.
In this regard, Croatia is applying relevant European and UN
conventions and is cooperating with Interpol, Europol and experts from
neighbouring countries.
In 2006, there were 337 registered white collar crimes, or 105 down
from 2005. Most frequent criminal acts of this kind were abuse of office and
and abuse of powers (211 registered cases).
Sikavica concluded that the national programme had yielded results.
