Romania's joining the European Union on 1 January 2007 was the most important event in our recent history, Romanian Ambassador to Croatia Oana-Cristina Popa, said greeting those present, including Croatian Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic.
"From now on, Croatia has another friend in Brussels, the ambassador said expressing Zagreb would soon join the "large European family".
At the start of this year, Bulgaria realised its dream to join the European Union, said Filip Grakov, Charge d'Affairs in the Bulgarian Embassy in Zagreb, adding that Bulgaria had been intensively working on that dream for seven years.
The head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Croatia, Vincent Degert, and German Ambassador Hans Juergen Peters, whose country is currently chairing the European Union, congratulated Bulgaria and Romania on joining the bloc.
