Also involved in the celebration of the Mass, which was dedicated to family, togetherness and world peace, were the Auxiliary Bishop of Zagreb, Vlado Kosic, French Bishop Benoit Rivier and members of the Taize Community.
The Taize Community, which brings together Roman Catholics and Protestants, was founded by Brother Roger in 1940. He was murdered at an evening prayer service in August 2005 and was succeeded by Brother Alois as Prior.
From December 28 to January 1, Zagreb is host to the 29th meeting of young people from throughout Europe, which is taking place under the slogan "Pilgrimage of Trust on Earth".
Some 40,000 young people were due to gather at Zagreb's trade fair centre on Sunday evening for common prayer.
