After last week's sudden decision by the broadcasting network Radio-Television BiH to replace CEO Drago Maric and the announced replacement of BHT 1 general director Milan Trivic and editor-in-chief Amir Zukic over alleged breaches of the editorial policy, the association "BH novinari" warned that the latest events had political connotations and were aimed at subduing the public media.
Slavo Kukic, chairman of the management board of the Croat-Muslim broadcasting network, said that attempts to replace the leadership of the national broadcasting company resembled the situation on the eve of the break-up of the former Yugoslavia.
The OSCE Mission in Sarajevo warned in a statement that the decision of the Bosnian Serb government to discontinue communication with BHT 1 reporters was intolerable in a democratic country.
The Republika Srpska government is preventing the state television network from performing its duty of providing information to the public, which is vital for any democratic country, the Mission said.
