ZAGREB, Jan 18 (Hina) - The Croatian government on Thursday
relieved of duty the head of its office for associations, Jadranka Cigelj,
under urgent procedure over a questionnaire that she had sent to the members of
the Civil Society Development Council without the government's knowledge and
with the aim of vetting the Council members. At the start of the
government session today, Prime Minister Ivo Sanader said the government had no
knowledge of the questionnaire, adding that Cigelj had abused her position to
obtain personal information which she planned to forward to the Security and
Intelligence Agency (SOA).
Deputy Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor apologised to members of the
Council who had to fill out the questionnaire and all members of civil society
associations in Croatia who were offended by Cigelj's actions.
