In attendance were the Vatican's then state secretary Cardinal Angelo Sodano, the Secretary for Relations with States Dominique Mamberti, the president of the Croatian Bishops Conference, Cardinal Josip Bozanic, and the secretary-general of the Synod of Bishops, Msgr Nikola Eterovic.
Sodano wished Croatia progress, underlining that it deserved a place in the European Union.
Also discussed was a visit to the Holy See by a Croatian delegation headed by Prime Minister Ivo Sanader on January 17 and a meeting with the Pope.
