The cocaine, worth more than EUR40 million in the black market, was hidden in paint cans. The truck, bearing Macedonian registration plates, was driven by an Albanian from Macedonia. According to initial reports, the shipment was intended for the Greek market.
Although they do not have drug detection equipment, Kosovo customs officers warned their Macedonian colleagues about the suspicious truck.
Montenegrin police reported on Monday that the cocaine had arrived in the port of Bar from Italy on board the Croatian ship "Losinj" and that Montenegrin customs officers had not noticed anything suspicious about the travel documents of the ship's crew or the cargo.
Containers with the drugs were loaded onto a truck on January 4, which left Montenegro for Kosovo via the Kula border crossing on the same day, the police report said.
According to travel documents, the owner of the cargo is the Belgrade-based company "Makfut" and its final destination was Greece.
