ZAGREB, Jan 5 (Hina) - A Eucharist was held at Zagreb's cathedral on Friday to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the death of Cardinal Franjo Seper, a Zagreb Archbishop and prefect of the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

The mass for Seper (1905-1981), the Holy Office prefect from 1968 until 1981, was said by the current prefect, Cardinal William Joseph Levada. He read out a message from Pope Benedict XVI underlining Seper's contribution to the Congregation, the Papal Biblical Commission and the International Theological Commission. The pope also sent his regards to the Croatian people.

An address was given by the Archbishop of Zagreb, Cardinal Josip Bozanic. Also attending was the Apostolic Nuncio to Croatia Francisco Javier Lozano.

Seper is the only Croat to have held such a high post at the Vatican so far.
