"In all the communities where the HDZ and its partners have been in power, progress is visible in relation to 2005," Sanader said at the main rally for Sibenik and Sibenik County.
Speaking of the opposition, headed by the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Sanader said that the SDP had made its support for changes to the Constitution conditional on stripping the Croatian diaspora of the right to vote.
In the current time of crisis, the SDP is advocating the introduction of new taxes, such as taxes on savings deposits, Sanader said, adding that the SDP also advocated taking religious education out of schools.
The rally in Sibenik was also addressed by Anton Markov of the Peasant Party (HSS), which together with the Social Liberal Party (HSLS) is the HDZ's partner in the local elections in Sibenik County.
Later in the day, the HDZ leader also addressed an election rally in Zadar.
He called on voters to vote for his party and enable it to continue governing Zadar and Zadar County as it had been doing in the last 19 years.
Speaking of Croatia's integration with the European Union, Sanader said that Croatia would join the bloc regardless of Slovenia's blockade.
"Slovenes and Croatians have friendly relations, and my message to the Slovene leadership is: Croatia will join the EU and it won't give an inch of its territory in the process," Sanader said.
