BELGRADE, April 29 (Hina) - The head of the coalition of Croatian Serb refugee associations in Serbia, Miodrag Linta, and a deputy of the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS) in the Croatian parliament, Ratko Gajica, on Wednesday called on Croatian Serb refugees to go to the polls in the highest possible number in the 17 May local elections in Croatia.

Speaking at a news conference in Belgrade, Linta and Gajica said that it was of crucial importance for Serbs to have their representatives in units of local authority, as this could help their efforts to exercise their minority rights and to develop the villages and towns where they live.

SDSS parliamentarian Gajica said that Serbs were concentrated in several communities which he described as lacking in human resources and development, and added that Croatian Serbs had their interests in changing the situation for the better.

Refugee associations in Belgrade will organise free of charge transport from Serbia to polling stations in Knin, Benkovac, Obrovac, Gracac, Korenica, Topusko, Dvor, Slunj, Vojnic, Krnjak, Gvozd, Glina, Pakrac, Okucani, Plaski, Donji Lapac, Udbina, Plitvice Lakes, Ervenik and Drnis, depending on the expressed interest, for the May 17 local elections.
