ZAGREB, June 20 (Hina) - The strongest opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) will hold a presidential nominating convention on 12 July when it will opt either for Ljubo Jurcic or for Ivo Josipovic as its candidate for the new Croatian President.

Jurcic and Josipovic were nominated by the SDP chief Zoran Milanovic at the party's Main Committee in Zagreb on Saturday,

Asked by the press later about crucial differences between him and Josipovic, Ljubo Jurcic said that both of them were high-quality candidates and it remained to be seen whom the SDP membership would prefer.

Jurcic, a professor at the Faculty of Economics, said that he would pay more attention to the economy-related issues while Josipovic, a professor at the Zagreb-based Law School, would focus on law-related matters.

Commenting on media speculations that the presidential candidate of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) could be Prime Minister Ivo Sanader, Both Jurcic and Josipovic said that it was all the same to them.

Josipovic said that he was offering his project of new justness in a bid to help Croatia to provide its citizens with social and economic security.

The SDP chief Milanovic told the press that he equally treated bot candidates.

Asked whether he would make the SDP cooperation with the Croatian People's Party (HNS) conditional on the HNS support to the SDP presidential candidate, Milanovic answered in the negative.

The second term of the incumbent Croatian President Stjepan Mesic expires by the end of this year.
