Serbian PM Ivica Dacic described Erdogan's statement that "Kosovo is Turkey, Turkey is Kosovo" as undiplomatic, while Deputy PM and Parliament Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic called it scandalous.
"The message by Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan is undiplomatic. Such words, said in Prizren, certainly don't contribute to political stability in Kosovo and Metohija nor do they restore trust between Serbs and Albanians," Dacic was quoted as saying in Vecerenje Novosti.
Vucic told Belgrade media that he would ask Turkey to apologise
Stefanovic interpreted Erdogan's statement as "grave and scandalous."
The Serbian Foreign Ministry condemned Erdogan's statement, saying on Friday that such statements "can't be accepted as friendly" and that they deviate from the assurances Serbian officials received in official contacts with their Turkish colleagues.
While visiting Prizren, Kosovo on Thursday, Erdogan said "Kosovo is Turkey, Turkey is Kosovo" and that the Kosovo and Turkish peoples shared the same history and civilisation.
"When I come to Kosovo, I feel at home. Turkey was among the first countries which recognised Kosovo's independence and we will continue to help Kosovo," he said.
