He once again called for the withdrawal of the genocide lawsuits Croatia and Serbia filed against each other before the International Court of Justice, saying it would be a "historic step towards reconciliation."
Dacic said it must be done as soon as possible because the time of the hearings was fast approaching, which he said could again stir up negative feelings. "Embarking on lawsuits and hearings certainly won't come to any good."
He went on to say that Croatia and Serbia, regardless of their European Union membership, could not do without the rest of the region, notably without Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, which he said represented the main market for their goods.
"Therefore, we have to build good relations and I'm willing to maximally step that up. I will invite (Croatian) Prime Minister Milanovic in the days ahead because the (Croatian) President too agreed that we are slow in normalising relations... We need more determination," Dacic was quoted as saying.
He said that in building better relations, one should start from the interests the two countries had. "We have many and I guess we are interested in cooperating, so we should tear down the Berlin Walls between our states and peoples. If we wait for someone else to tear them down, they will never be torn down because it's in no one's interest that we all be united here."
