Ljubljana Airport and Adria Airways are two of the 15 companies the Slovenian government plans to privatise by selling its stakes in them.
China Southern Airlines representatives visited Ljubljana last month. The company is interested in buying any stake in Ljubljana Airport on sale and would also take over Adria Airways and its pilot school. The Chinese need 3,900 pilots a year and that was the first thing they were interested in, said Skobir.
Large European airlines are not interested in small markets such as Slovenia but there are chances on the Asian market, which is promising and growing, he added.
If the Chinese carrier buys Ljubljana Airport and Adria Airways, the Slovenian companies could make money, otherwise this will be another lost opportunity for Slovenia, he said, adding that cooperation could be in question because of "European political problems and limitations."
Skobir said it would not be good if Ljubljana Airport was bought by a competitor - any airport less than 500 km from Ljubljana and with less than 15 million passengers.
