In recent weeks, CO has bought larger stakes in Pozavarovalnica Sava from several funds and banks, outside the exchange and at unknown prices, raising its interest to nearly ten per cent.
CO's actual ownership influence in the Slovenian insurer is increasingly because, according to unofficial reports, the Croatian company is also behind an investor who has bought a 4.4 per cent stake via a fiduciary account in Raiffeisen Bank.
If that is correct, one can assume that CO has invested nearly EUR 20 million in Pozavarovalnica Sava stock and that it still wants to gain a 25 per cent stake, which it failed to do during a recapitalisation at the beginning of the year.
The Croatian government is seeking a strategic owner for CO, and the investor who manages to buy a 50 per cent stake in CO and thus take over Pozavarovalnica Sava would become the biggest insurer in the region.
