Asked by the press what he expected of the elections, Karamarko said the HDZ would make a quality step forward in comparison to previous results.
He said the party had about 6,500 new members and that "one feels the spirit of unity," adding that "dissonant tones" on some issues were "quite normal."
"The party isn't run with imperative tones, it's not run autocratically but in a democratic fashion. The party is indeed undergoing democratisation and I think this is being recognised."
Speaking of the economic situation, Karamarko said that according to the unions, 700 people lost their jobs every day.
He said the party would nominate its mayoral candidates in Zagreb, Rijeka and Osijek soon. He announced the HDZ would hold a convention on March 8, two and a half before local elections, when all candidates will be presented.
