"The UK wool textile industry is closed from a production point of view until early January," one close observer of the slow market said. Minor currency movements failed to impact on the market. But the source was quick to point out that currency moves could alter selling attitudes in the coming weeks. "If any one currency talking point persists it is the effect of strengthening in sterling on export pricing and demand. Looking towards 1997 the source said one helpful development for upside gains, breaking recent stolid conditions, could be the Australian credit facility to encourage exports of wool to China. 241120 MET dec 96
