Nickel was also a weak performer but other metals showed little movement during a morning when trading was thin as many traders and customers were recovering from a lively evening of entertainment that accompanied the LME annual dinner Tuesday. "Comex (copper) came in much lower than expected and buyers here just disappeared and aluminium soon followed. There's no confidence in the rallies yet," one trader said. Three months copper traded from $1,948 on the pre-market down to $1,920 a tonne at the end of the morning kerb to show a loss of $29 from Tuesday. The move wiped out the confidence that had begun to build as the continued drawdown in LME stocks aided a surge towards resistance in the $1,950/$1,970 area on Tuesday. Traders said the market is still very nervous and they would not be surprised to see the price dip back below $1,900 again. The subdued mood in copper soon spread into aluminium and it did not take much volume of selling to take the price to fresh 2-1/2 year lows of $1,324. Last morning kerb business was at $1,325, down $21.50 from Tuesday. But aluminium has had its supporters on recent dips and could quickly attempt another rally, traders said. Nickel's failure to maintain Tuesday's move above resistance at at $7,200 touched off liquidation orders down to $7,050 before last business at $7,080, down $170 a tonne. A loss of 2,000 tonnes of output at Inco Indonesia saw early business at $7,230 but its impact was shortlived. Lead drifted lower in insignificant volume and ended the morning quoted at $763/$765, down around $8. Zinc was down one at $1,034, tin down $5 at $6,050/$6,055 and aluminium alloy was quoted at $1,215/$1,225. FRANCUSKA BURZA KOVINA - 09. listopada 1996.
