Most of the industrial metals started in positive territory after most made gains on Friday. But aluminium stalled after hitting $1,365, prompting long liquidation, traders said. "There were some stale longs from last week and when they started selling it just went," one floor trader said. Stops were hit when prices slumped below last week's low of $1,340, sending prices to a fresh 2-1/4 year low of $1,335. It found support, however, bouncing to end the morning kerb at $1,342, down $15 from Friday's afternoon kerb. "It's got to bottom out at some point. But who knows where that will be, $1,250?" another floor trader said. Initial support should be found around $1,330, based on the lows of early June 1994. But the market is still oversold so the downside should be limited in the short-term, chartists said. Resistance was pegged at $1,387, then the psychological $1,400 barrier. Copper ended the morning with pared gains after breezing up to $1,929 per tonne. It also was unable to sustain the higher levels, finishing the morning kerb at $1,915, up $4 from Friday. "There are a few stops above $1,930/35, but it will struggle to get above there," one floor trader said. Warrant sales were still strong and stocks were expected to fall again on Tuesday after declining by 9,925 tonnes on Friday. The tightness was showing up in the spreads, as the premium of cash over three months metal firmed to $10/$11, but ended the kerb little changed at $4/$9. Nickel at first nudged higher levels, topping at $7,185, but last business on the kerb was at $7,040, a $30 loss. It traded down to a low of $7,110, which is pegged as support. Tin shed $45 to close at $$6,050 and lead ended little changed at $770/71 after Friday's $771. "The March secondary uptrend cuts today at $776 and is important resistance. It is also the possible neckline for the suggested head and shoulders," said chartist Harry Creates of broker AMT. Zinc gained $1 to $1,024 after failing at its top price of $1,029. Alloy was little changed at $1,205/15 versus $1,210/15. FRANCUSKA BURZA KOVINA - 07. listopada 1996. BAKAR FFR/100 KG 1059 KOSITAR FFR/100 KG 3669 CINK EL.
