The trade held the most-active July contract over support at 73.00 cents a lb as prices drifted within a narrow range. July cotton settled 0.30 cent lower at 73.12 cents a lb, traded 73.45 to 73.00 cents. New-crop December went out down 0.11 cent at 75.65 cents. Dealers said July will need to overcome 74.10 cents in order to attract fresh fund buying, but a lack of bullish fundamental news could keep the market in its recent sideways pattern. An estimated 8,500 lots changed hands on the day, compared with Tuesday's official 8,904 lots. 051100 MET jun 97
