Soft oils attract most of the business during the afternoon with crushers the main soy oil sellers with dealers the buyers. Traders said the rape oil trade appeared to be short covering following the sale of material to China last month. Palm oil was supported by firm prices in the Far East on talk of higher then expected Malaysian exports during the first ten day's of the month. News that China may buy one million tonnes of palm oil from Malaysia during 1997 had little impact. "China has been buying a lot of soft oil lately, so I would not count on it," said one trader. Lauric oils were higher but neglected. At the close Dutch soy oil sellers were 0.50 guilders up after Jul traded at 104.75, Aug at 103.50 and 103.75 and Nov/Jan at 102.50 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. June traded at 105.50 guilders in a switch with July at 104.50 guilders. Rape oil finished unchanged to 0.50 guilders lower after Jul traded at 105, Aug/Oct at 102.75 and Nov/Jan at 103 guilders a 100 kilos fob ex-mill. Crude palm oil cif Europe closed with unchanged sellers while products were unchanged to $5 up with no further business reported. Coconut oil offers were unchanged from the opening at $5 up from Monday's close to unchanged. Palmkernel oil sellers were unchanged to $2.50 up.
