He recalled that the UN designated this International Day in 1994 to underline the importance of implementing the Montreal Protocol on substances that deplete the ozone layer. Croatia signed the protocol in 1991.
Zmajlovic said Croatia was implementing a project to end the consumption of chlorofluorocarbon, halon and methyl bromide by its accession to the European Union, envisaged for July 1, 2013, 26 years before the deadline planned by the Montreal Protocol.
