CROATIAN MISSION TO UN WARNS S.C.

Autor:
NEW YORK, Nov 9 (Hina) - In connection with the recent request by the Croatian Foreign Minister Dr.Mate Granic for an urgent UN Security Council session due to the situation in central Bosnia, the Croatian Ambassador to the UN in New York Dr.Mario Nobilo forwarded Tuesday a letter to the UN Security Council Chairperson Ambassador Jose Luis Jesus with the information on the seriously deteriorating situation in the largest Croatian enclave in Vitez. "The armed forces of the Bosnian Muslims are threatening the largest Croatian enclave in central Bosnia in the Vitez area. We have reports on extensive activities of the Bosnian Muslims' army in the area where two Croatian villages of Zabrde and Jelike are located. (...) At the moment over 40,000 displaced persons, mostly Bosnian Croats, are living in poor conditions in Vitez. Ethnic cleansing of this enclave by the Muslim forces would create a serious humanitarian catastrophe and would cause the deterioration of balance in the region," Ambassador Nobilo says in the letter to Ambassador Jesus. The letter also warned about the danger of the local factory of explosives and ammunition which could put the civilian population in jeopardy. "The Bosnian Croat authorities warned of the danger of the largest ammunition plant in Vitez. The destruction of this factory, which could happen due to the continued Muslim army attacks on the town, would jeopardize the security of the town and its residents," the letter states. "Continuing the request for an urgent UN Security Council of Nov 3 1993, we call upon all members of the Security Council to take into consideration this threatening humanitarian tragedy within and around Vitez, "the letter by the Croatian Mission to the UN Security Council concludes.
