SARAJEVO, Nov 2 (Hina) - By using fire Bosnian Army soldiers can
control a road from Sarajevo to Trnovo, thwarting Serb traffic
along that road.
The road was crucial for connecting Serb troops besieging
Sarajevo to eastern Bosnia and Serbia, a UN Protection Force
(UNPROFOR) spokesman, Tim Spicer, said today in Sarajevo.
Bosnian Army troops were still in some parts of the Mt Igman
demilitarized zone (DMZ), but their number had decreased
considerably, he said.
Bosnian troops agreed to remove heavy arms from the Mt Igman
DMZ which they had used to attack Serb positions recently.
UNPROFOR had no accurate information on the distribution of
Serb mortars and other kinds of heavy weaponry used to attack
civilian targets in the Sarajevo suburb of Hrasnica on the foot of
Igman.
We were trying to locate the Serbs' heavy weapons, and if we
succeeded we would then consider what measures to take, Spicer
said.
One 122-mm cannon was spotted near Krupac in the weapons
exclusion zone around Sarajevo. Serbs were warned by UNPROFOR to
remove the cannon and they did, Spicer said.
