NEW YORK, Oct 14 (Hina) - Croatia supported the permanent
membership of Germany and Japan in the UN Security Council as
well as its enlargement to include 25 members.
Croatia believed Germany and Japan should be permanently
admitted because of their firm adherence to democratic principles
and their active role in maintaining international peace and
security, Croatian Ambassador to the UN Mario Nobilo said today
in an address to the 49th session of the UN General Assembly in
New York.
Nobilo said that developing countries should be better
represented in the Security Council because of their number,
geographical position, and political and economic influence.
But he said membership should not exceed 25 countries so
that the Council's efficiency would not be threatened.
Croatia was situated in a crisis region which prompted the
UN to pass more than 70 resolutions in the past three years but
many of them had not been fully implemented, Nobilo said.
"We want to stress that the Security Council, for the sake
of its own efficiency, must ensure full implementation of its
resolutions," he said.
