Split, Oct 3 (Hina) - US Defence Secretary William Perry today met
the UN Secretary-General's special envoy in former Yugoslavia,
Yasushi Akashi, in Divulje near the port of Split.
The talks centred on NATO air support for the UN Protection
Force (UNPROFOR) in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
"I think our opinions are getting closer," Akashi said after
the talks.
"We agreed on closer cooperation to provide sensible use of
NATO air power to support UNPROFOR."
Akashi declined to comment on the possibilities of intensified
air strikes against the Bosnian Serbs.
Meanwhile Perry said a sensible use of air power was to be
expected which should be stronger and more efficient.
He said he expected more intensified air strikes to be carried
out against the Bosnian Serbs.
This morning Perry met the UNPROFOR commander in former
Yugoslavia, General Bertrand de Lapresle and the UNPROFOR commander
in Bosnia, General Michael Rose. He informed them of talks at a
ministerial session of NATO member countries in Seville.
"I think UNPROFOR and NATO will cooperate better in the
future," Perry said.
