ZAGREB, Oct 1 (Hina) - Croatian Foreign Minister, Mate Granic,
today said the latest UN Security Council Resolution "had created a
framework for a viable solution."
"The Resolution calls on all states emerging from the wreck of
former Yugoslavia to recognise each other," Minister Granic said on
the 7.30 national TV news broadcast.
The Resolution extended the UNPROFOR mandate in Croatia for
six months.
Under the Resolution, the five-power Contact Group is to draw
up a "plan for the reintegration of the UN Protected Areas into
Croatia."
"The Resolution also calls on UNPROFOR to implement all the
relevant UNSC resolutions, particularly Resolution 871," Minister
Granic said.
"We expect the Contact Group to come up with their plan in
about six weeks," he said.
"The Croatian delegation rejected the wording of a Russian
proposal, because we wanted to have a definite schedule, which
included a call for mutual recognition as a first step, followed by
the Contact Group plan," Minister Granic said.
Commenting a provision on the safe return of refugees, Granic
said UNPROFOR's task was to organise the return to the 'blue
zones', while the Contact Group was to elaborate a concrete plan
for the return of all refugees.
"This plan will then be submitted to the Security Council and
Belgrade will be asked to support it, as it was asked to support
the Contact Group plan for Bosnia-Herzegovina," Minister Granic
said.
