A BRIEF LOOK AT CROATIAN PRESS ON FRIDAY

Autor:
ZAGREB, Oct 7 (Hina) - "Prices Continue Dropping", the Zagreb-based daily VJESNIK carried the Croatian Government's assessments of the implementation of the stabilization programme. Croatian foreign exchange reserves were higher than two billion dollars, the daily said. In a report on the Croatian Parliament's House of Representatives session VJESNIK said deputies had asked who was responsible that so many roads had been constructed in Croatia despite the lack of financial funds available for the construction's costs. The discussion on voting confidence in Minister of Transport, Communications and Maritime Affairs Ivica Mudrinic was also included into the House of Representatives session's agenda. Commenting on Lord Owen's statement that minor alterations of the internationally recognized borders might also be debated in peace talks (in former Yugoslavia), a VJESNIK journalist said: "If a just and lasting peace is to achieved in the region, then 'mapmakers' such as David Owen should be stripped of their mediating mandate as soon as possible." In coverage of the House of Representatives session the other Zagreb daily VECERNJI LIST said: "The two acts that have been adopted regulate salaries for 270,000 civil servants and public service employees. As of October 1 the average salary will be around 1,900 kunas." A VECERNJI LIST Ljubljana correspondent wrote that the Slovene Government requested Parliament to change a provision of the Municipalities Act under which the villages of Buzin, Mlini, Skudelin and Skrilje, (situated in Croatia) should be incorporated into the adjacent Slovene municipality of Piran. The paper carried a two-page report with several photographs on a Yugoslav Army air attack on the Croatian President's headquarters in Zagreb three years ago. (hina) mar vm mm 071149 MET oct 94
