A BRIEF LOOK AT CROATIAN PRESS ON THURSDAY, 8 SEP

Autor:
ZAGREB, Sep 8 (Hina) - Today's daily VJESNIK carries an article on yesterday's press conference of President Tudjman. Talking about Holy Father's visit to Croatia, the President stressed that "the Pope's visit is of an historic significance for Croatian people." Croatia will not allow further postponements of the reintegration of the occupied areas into the Croatian constitutional and legal system, said President Tudjman. Talking about the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina, he said that Croatia and the Croat leadership in Bosnia-Herzegovina wanted the realization of the project on the Croat-Bosniac Federation. The paper brings a report from Turanj, near Karlovac, where refugees from Velika Kladusa are stranded. "Representatives of the Croatian police request that UNPROFOR be more responsible regarding the problem on the refugees and a 'liberation ' of Turanj and the 'blue zone'," writes Vjesnik. A commentary by Stjepan Martinovic says: "Holy Father did not come to Sarajevo because some prevented him and others made it possible for them." Another Zagreb daily VECERNJI LIST also carries an article on President Tudjman's press conference, headlined "Pope's visit is an historic event." The President talked about the strike of teachers. He said: "The Croatian Government cannot rise salaries above its possibilities if it is not willing to put the stabilization program in question." Reporting on a session of the Croatian Government, the paper says: "In the letter of intent, sent to the IMF, the Government presented its economic policy in the next period."
