OSIJEK, July 6 (Hina) - The Osijek municipal service company can
again unload rubbish from the city at the local rubbish dump in
Sarvas since today. The Russian U.N. Protection Force (UNPROFOR)
battalion's commander forbade unloading the rubbish in Sarvas
yesterday.
At the demand of the Croatian army's commander for the Osijek
district, Major General Djuro Decak, for an emergency session with
the UNPROFOR military commander for Sector East, Brigadier
Perelyakin the meeting between Croatian General Decak and
UNPROFOR's representative, Brigadier Perelyakin, was held today at
the UNPROFOR checkpoint at Sarvas. After three-hour-long talks
General Decak told reporters that an agreement had been reached
that the garbage from Osijek could be again unloaded at the rubbish
damp at Sarvas since today.
Before reaching the agreement workers of the Osijek municipal
service company (UNIKOM) had unloaded the rubbish in the Drava
River since the UNPROFOR head for civilian affairs in Sector East,
Phillipe Corwin, had cancelled a meeting with Croatian coordinator
for contacts with UNPROFOR in Sector East and Prefect of Osijek
County, Branimir Glavas. The meeting should have took place in
Osijek. Corwin mentioned that reasons for cancellation of the
meeting were insecurity of entering and leaving Sector East.
