MARTIC FORWARDS LETTER TO BERTRAND DE LAPRESLE

Autor:
BELGRADE, April 14 (Hina) - Belgrade radio reported yesterday that the leader of Serbian separatists in Croatia, Milan Martic, forwarded a letter to UN Force Commander Bertrand de Lapresle, in which he said that he was surprised to learn about UNPROFOR intentions to deploy its forces at internationally recognized Croatian borders. He can accept the deployment of UNPROFOR troops only "at the disengagement line with Croatia", reported Belgrade radio. Monitoring of Croatia's internationally recognized borders, which are currently controlled by Serb rebels, is stipulated by UN Security Council Resolution 769. Martic does not like such an idea because in that way the border between Croatia's occupied areas and Serbia would be established in UNPA East, while the border between Croatia's occupied areas and the Bosnian territory controlled by Serbs would be established in Sectors West, North and South. The Bosnian Serb leader, Radovan Karadzic stated three days ago that operations of the international community, namely NATO's operation around Gorazde, would only accelerate the unification of Serbian lands. 141301 MET apr 94
