WASHINGTON, May 22 (Hina) - The Holocaust Memorial Museum and the
Croatian National Archive concluded an agreement on cooperation
yesterday in Washington.
The agreement was signed by the director of the Holocaust
Research Institute, Michael Berenbaum, and Croatian ambassador to
the US, Petar Sarcevic.
"The Croatian Government will persevere in searching for the
truth about the Croatian and the world Jewish community,"
Ambassador Sarcevic said.
"These efforts include the investigation of crimes committed
during World War II and in the period immediately following the
war, as well as the involvement of Croats in the anti-fascist
struggle," he said.
Exhaustive research into the World War II crimes had been
conducted in Croatia since the independence, in cooperation with
the Yad Vashem Memorial Museum and the Israeli National Archive,
Sarcevic said.
Unfortunately, a great part of the archive material had been
shipped off to Belgrade during the war in Croatia and was
unavailable to researchers.
"This agreement is an important step forward in searching for
historical truth," Berenbaum said.
"It shows that Croatia has nothing to hide about its history,"
he said.
