ZAGREB, May 20 (Hina) - President of the Croatian strongest
opposition party, Liberal, (HSLS), Drazen Budisa, called Saturday
all opposition leaders to "open and honest cooperation, without any
calculations", in order to beat the ruling Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ) in the next election.
Speaking at a ceremonial caucus, marking sixth anniversary of
his party establishment (HSLS was the first non-Communist party to
be established in Croatia, in 1989), Budisa said the key policy of
the party would be "the reduction of enormous President-of-the-
Republic's authority", and struggle for a "true parliamentary
system."
Croatia has been going through "a new outburst of primitivism,
just like in 1941 and 1945," Budisa said, relating to the fascist
and communist regimes the country had experienced in its past.
The session was attended by the representatives of other major
opposition parties, and the representatives of liberal parties of
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Austria and Germany.
