SARAJEVO, May 17 (Hina) - Bosnian Serbs said today they would allow
Sarajevo airport to reopen provided that last year's anti-sniping
agreement was strictly honoured.
UN spokesman Alexander Ivanko said that the offer came in
yesterday's letter to the UN Protection Force headquarters from
Nikola Koljevic, one of the Bosnian Serb leaders.
Koljevic also asked for negotiations with the Bosnian
government to resume at the highest level, Ivanko said.
The Serb offer allegedly included the full restoration of the
humanitarian air-lift, but Ivanko was unable to say if civilian
passangers would be allowed on UNHCR flights.
The Serb proposal would be conveyed to Yasushi Akashi, who was
expected to give further instructions to UNPROFOR.
UNPROFOR officials were to inform the Bosnian government about
Koljevic's offer, Ivanko said.
