SARAJEVO, May 11 (Hina) - Bosnian President Alija Izetbegovic today
sent a letter to UN Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali
demanding an immediate end to the blockade of Sarajevo airport and
the resettlement of Serb population from western Slavonia into the
Serb-held areas of northwestern Bosnia.
This was a joint demand of the Presidency and Government of
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Izetbegovic said.
The letter came ahead of a meeting of the UN Secretary General
and UNPROFOR officials in the former Yugoslavia, scheduled for
tomorrow in Paris.
The Bosnian government also demanded that the UN lift the
blockade of a road via Mount Igman so as to break a stranglehold on
the Bosnian capital.
Ghali was reminded of the fact that western Slavonia Serbs
were crossing into Bosnia with UN logistic support and that this
illegal action was followed by the expulsion of Croats and Muslims
from the occupied areas of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Izetbegovic also reminded Ghali that the lack of response to
the latest Serb attack on the Sarajevo safe area, which killed 10
people, encouraged Serb troops to continue attacks on civilians
elsewhere in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
